So Todd Graham won’t be taking over the Texas Longhorns.
When the Longhorns announced the hiring of Arizona State Sun Devils‘ athletic director Steve Patterson for the same position at their school, rumors began to fly that Graham could take over if or when current Longhorns’ head coach Mack Brown is fired or retires.
According to Arizona State president Michael Crow, the Longhorns couldn’t hire Graham even if they wanted.
“For him to be hired by Texas (specifically), I had to give permission for that,” Crow told Jeff Metcalfe of the Arizona Republic. “As a function of our agreement, he’s not allowed to hire someone from ASU.”
The Longhorns have made no indication they want to hire Graham and probably feel their program can do better if they do part ways with Brown.
Also, Brown has helped turned the Longhorns’ around and they haven’t lost a conference game.
Graham was hired away from the Pittsburgh Panthers by Patterson before the 2012 season. Graham, who recently had a scare on a plane, is 14-7 at Arizona State and is 63-36 in his college career.
