On Thursday night, No. 3 Oregon and No. 5 Stanford are squaring off on Thursday night in a Pac-12 match up. The Pac-12 has looked good this year and even been named a challenger to the SEC’s claim of best conference in the nation, and a Top 5 match up helps their case. Oregon will be trying to get a win on the road to remain undefeated and in the hunt for a spot in the BCS National Championship game.
Stopping Oregon’s offense might be difficult.
“I feel like, this team, we should at least put up 40,” Oregon running back De’Anthony Thomas said.
Stanford’s defense has slowed successful quarterbacks this season, though arguably none that are the caliber has Heisman hopeful Marcus Mariota.
“He’s a great player. He’s going to make some plays. But we can’t just let him take the ball, read what we’re doing,” said linebacker A.J. Tarpley, who intercepted Mariota last season. “We want to try and mix it up a little bit, whether that’s attacking him, try to show something that looks like something but it’s actually something else. We’ll mix it up. We don’t want them to get in their rhythm. Because once they do that, you can’t stop them.”
Stanford can do it though, they’ve handed Mariota his only career lost when they beat Oregon in Eugene last season.
