FAU interviews Ohio State assistant coach Luke Fickell for vacant head coaching slot

With the abrupt resignation last week of head coach Carl Pelini amid allegations that he was seen partaking in some cocaine and marijuana use on a recent bye week, the Florida Atlantic Owls are now in search of a new coach to lead the program, and the interview process has already begun.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, Athletic Director Pat Chun flew to Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday to interview Ohio State Buckeyes assistant, Luke Fickell.

This could end up being the perfect match for the Owls. Chun is very familiar with Fickell, having spent a good amount of time working in the Ohio State Athletic Department before heading to FAU. Fickell also has some significant head coaching experience. After Jim Tressel was forced out following the tattoo scandal, Fickell ran the Buckeyes for a year in 2011 before Urban Meyer stepped in prior to 2012.

Fickell currently serves as Urban Meyer’s defensive coordinator for the undefeated and fourth-ranked Ohio State team.

At the moment, offensive coordinator Brian Wright is holding down the fort for the FAU football team following one of the more embarrassing incidents in recent memory.
