FC Basel is hosting Steaua Bucuresti in Champions League group play. Basel is sitting in third place with 4 points while Steaua Bucuresti is in last with 1 point. Basel is only two points behind the group leaders and a win could either pull them even with Chelsea and Schalke if they draw, or into second behind who ever wins.
“We need to do better and do what we failed to do in Bucharest – to score,” Basel’s Murat Yakin said, via UEFA.com. “We want to win. We played well in Bucharest until the hour but didn’t find the net and we hope to do better this time. We have been informed that Steaua have changed their tactics and we are prepared.”
“A draw is no good for either team. We both want to keep our Champions League hopes alive and both clubs have the quality to continue. Both teams need a win. There has been a lot of criticism of Basel lately but we are still in the Champions League, and in the Swiss league we are first, so I can imagine worse situations. The critics are looking from the outside in.”
Bucuresti is looking for a win as well, but winning on the road will be tough.
“It is a very important match – we would like to win and we need to to stay in the Champions League,” Bucuresti’s Laurenţiu Reghecampf said. “We saw in Bucharest that these are very difficult opponents – Basel played very well, they are a very strong team. We don’t want to make the same mistakes we made in Bucharest. We will try to be more compact and attack more.”
