Joanne Calderwood may be channeling a little bit of Kanye West as she walks to the cage to face fellow undefeated strawweight Katja Kankaanpaa at Invicta FC 7, Dec. 7.
Calderwood has more than once declared that she will be using “Amazing” as her walkout song for the event.
West released “Amazing” in 2009 on his “808s and Heartbreak” album. He co-produced the song with Victory Alexander and is accompanied on vocals by Young Jeezy. The song was nominated at the 52nd Grammy Awards for “Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group” and has also been featured on “NBA2K10” and “NBA2K13“ video games.
But for Calderwood, “Amazing” is a song that puts her in the zone.
This would not be the first time a fighter has used one of West’s songs for walkout music. Former UFC Heavyweight champion and potential hall of fame candidate Frank Mir has walked out to “Amazing” for several of his bouts, including his wins over Cheick Kongo and Antonio Rodrgio Nogueira.
A lot of times, entrance music can reflect the fighter. I think “Amazing” will be a good song for Calderwood’s entrance. As West’s voice comes and the backup vocals come over the speakers, there is a sense of foreboding, as if someone is going to get hurt.
Of course when Calderwood steps in the cage, someone usually gets hurt.
