Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is currently looking to make this Phillies team, who won the World Series back in 2008, one of the hottest teams in baseball once again.

According to MLB.com, Amaro Jr. has submitted offers to several key free agents. Those names include outfielders Nelson Cruz, Carlos Beltran and first baseman/outfielder Mike Morse.

It’s clear that the Phillies are looking to add more depth to their outfield after struggling when Domonic Brown went down with his injury and missed some time.

If they’re able to at least pull off Nelson Cruz or Carlos Beltran, this team will be a lot better. Right now Beltran may be leaning towards returning to the St. Louis Cardinals for one more go at the World Series after getting his first taste of the series itself.

If Beltran went to the Phillies, he would be putting himself out of playoff contention as this team may not be ready just yet to contend in the National League East with the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals sitting at the top of the division. Did I mention that they finished behind the New York Mets?

Another spot they’re currently looking to fill is the backstop. They could make a push for either Brian McCann, Jarrod Saltalamacchia but may end up going the A.J. Pierzynski route if both McCann and ‘Salty’ are too expensive.
