UFC Fight Night 31, also known as Fight for the Troops 3, started off with a bang in the online prelims.
Derek Brunson and Brian Houston got the action started in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Moments into the fight, Brunson landed a huge head kick that sent Houston careening towards the mat. Brunson followed up with a quick rear-naked choke to solidify the victory. The finish came at 48 seconds of the first round.
The following fight, between Seth Baczynski and Neil Magny, was a bit of a snoozer. The fight was very close, but a dominant round by Magny in the third looked like the winning moment. Unfortunately for Magny, Seth was given the unanimous decision 29-28.
Although the fight only lasted about 3 minutes, Yancy Medeiros and Yves Edwards threw down. Both men had some very nice exchanges during the fight. Ultimately, a brutal counter left hook by Medeiros spelled the end for Edwards. After a few follow-up punches, the fight was over, giving Medeiros his first win inside the UFC.
The final fight of the online prelims was a battle between Lorenz Larkin and Chris Camozzi. The entire fight was on the feet, as neither man looked to take it to the mat. Larkin showed off some incredible punching speed, along with some savvy techniques. Camozzi was utilizing leg kicks in order to get inside on Larkin, landing some nice straight punches. At the end of the fight, Larkin landed a beautiful spinning elbow to cap off his unanimous decision victory.
