Roger Federer was able to get his first victory of the 2013 ATP World Tour Finals when he beat Richard Gasquet i straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. From an article by the Associated Press, found here on ESPN,
In a match that had been billed as a meeting between two stylists of the men’s game, Federer quickly took control and broke Gasquet four times in the match. The Frenchman hit only 11 winners and looked inhibited throughout.
Federer and Gasquet both lost their opening round robin match, against defending champion Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro, respectively. Djokovic played del Potro in Thursday’s late match.
It was Federer’s 11th win in 13 matches against Gasquet.
After Federer lost to Djokovic earlier in the tournament, it was looking like it would play out just like the rest of Federer’s year, with disappointment. Luckily, he found a way to bounce back from the loss, and picked up a win, making his chances of getting to the semifinals that much easier.
It will be interesting to see how far Federer can actually make it in the last tournament of the year, and it would be pretty sweet to see win the title if you ask me. What do you think? Leave a comment below!
