The invitations for the Senior Bowl and the latest news is that TCU cornerback Jason Verrett has received an invitation to the event. Verrett is the most heralded player to be acknowledged publicly for his invitation and stands as the best senior corner in the country. The question with Verrett is whether or not he will opt to go and compete or if he would prefer to skip the event in hopes of avoiding injury or possibly exposing weakness depending on how people want to spin it.
Verrett’s battling size concerns, but as a football player, he has tremendous instincts, vision and versatility as a cover corner. He is also not afraid to hit. The expectation at this point is that Verrett is battling underclassmen corners in Bradley Roby from Ohio State and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu from Oregon, should they declare for the top corner spot in this year’s draft. Verrett is the most polished of the bunch but has the least upside of the group, so it will be an interesting discussion all the way up until the NFL Draft.
Verrett could use the Senior Bowl as an opportunity to firmly establish himself as the top corner, both at the event, and available in this year’s draft if he can go and have a great week against the competition. There is no reason to think he would wilt in that field, so hopefully he decides to go and compete and have a great week.
