The Oregon Ducks‘ number two spot in the BCS poll is currently in serious jeopardy as they are currently down at the half to Stanford, 17-0.
Stanford has been dominant in all phases of the game as they’ve been able to shut down the normally-feared Oregon attack. Being able to shut out the Ducks for an entire half is no easy task, however, the Cardinal have done just that.
They’ve been able to accomplish this by keeping the ball away from their opponent. Through the first 30 minutes, Stanford held the ball for 20:53, while Oregon has been in possession of it for just 9:07.
QB Kevin Hogan is managing the offense more than effectively and running back Tyler Gaffney is doing more than his part in helping the Cardinal win that time of possession battle, rushing for 84 yards on 24 carries in the first half.
As for Oregon, when they do have the ball, they haven’t looked near as dominant as they have against other opponents.
Heisman contender Marcus Mariota is under constant pressure from that physical Stanford defensive unit and he can’t get any sort of rhythm going with his offensive unit.
Can Oregon rebound in the second half and keep their title hopes alive? Or will Stanford be able to finish the job and make the folks in Tallahassee, FL very happy?
