With her win over Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche, Canadian fighter Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis has her sites set on what she hopes is her next challenge.
At the UFC: Fight for the Troops 3 post-fight press conference, Davis was asked if she would fight the Cat Zingano, who is recovering from surgery, in a title-eliminator bout. The Ally-Gator said that is where she would like to be and added that she would take any fight the promotion gives her.
UFC President Dana White said Davis’ victory was impressive and puts her in a “good position”
I was hoping Davis would face Amanda Nunes, Sarah Kaufman or the winner of the Miesha Tate vs. Ronda Rousey title fight. Although I had not initially thought of her fighting Zingano, but the more I think about it, the more it intrigues me. Zingano would certainly be a good test for Davis to see if she is ready to fight for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight championship.
Both “Alpha” and the Ally-Gator have impressive abilities on the mat and the stand up. Davis can also take some punishment in a fight and if she steps into the octagon against Zingano, who has finished all but one of her fights, that durability will be an asset.
If Davis does face Zingano and defeats her, she will have established herself as the No. 1 contender for the UFC Women’s 135-pound title.
