No. 1 contender Johnny Hendricks is a big, powerful man for the welterweight division and we learned just how big of a weight cut he needs to make in order to hit the 170-pound weight limit for his fights inside of the octagon.
Cutting weight is a big part of mixed martial arts, but we previously had no idea how much weight Hendricks would cut in order to fit in his current division. Now, we do.
During a recent Twitter Q&A with his fans, Hendricks said that thanks to working with Mike Dolce and the Dolce Diet, he is able to cut down 45 pounds in just eight weeks so that he can hit his mark when he steps on the scale.
“I follow The Dolce Diet for every training camp,” Hendricks wrote on Twitter. “Mostly lean protein and whole foods. I lose 45 lbs in 8 weeks.”
That means the man who challenges Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight title at UFC 167 walks around at well over 200 pounds. However, many fighters make drastic weight cuts and it isn’t new to the sport, so it will be interesting to see if Hendricks can use his size and power advantage to bring the UFC fans another upset this year and have his hand raised in victory.
