NBA veteran Vince Carter has been handed down a one game suspension from the league, after throwing a blatant elbow to the head of Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Steven Adams on Wednesday.

Adams delivered an inadvertent elbow to Carter’s head, which caused him to retaliate with one of his own.

John Schuhmann of passed along the news Friday morning:

Carter was initially ejected for throwing the elbow, so it comes as no surprise that he has received additional punishment.

It will be the first time in his career that Carter will miss a game due to suspension.

The Dallas Mavericks take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night without the services of Carter, so that means  Jae Crowder, who has been performing well off the bench in his past two games, will see expanded time.
