Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema to compete in Ironman Arizona triathlon

Congresswoman Krysten Sinema of Arizona’s 9th district will be competing in the Ironman Arizona triathlon later this month.

Considering I’m incapable of watching TV and taking notes at the same time, I’d say that’s some damn impressive multitasking.

Sinema released the following statement about her athletic endeavor:

Competing in Ironman Arizona, in the heart of Congressional District 9, is one of the most exciting challenges I’ve ever faced. The Ironman competition represents what I admire most about the American spirit—hard work, determination, and a commitment to overcoming challenges (Triathlete.com).

To add some difficulty to the triathlon — you know, because 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of cycling, and 26.2 miles of running ain’t challenging enough — Sinema revealed to CBS5 that she didn’t know how to swim before she started training.

Sinema will also be using the event to raise money for the Desert States Charitable Foundation. She already has about $10,000 in donations, and you can learn more about the organization (and donate yourself) here.

We wish Sinema the best of luck in the race. I’m sure there’s some sort of “running for office” joke to be made about all of this, but I’ll leave that up to y’all.
