Florida State Seminoles redshirt fresham quarterback Jameis Winston is firmly in control of the Heisman race after Marcus Mariota’s poor performance on Thursday in the crushing loss to Stanford.
Today, Winston started his campaign to close out the race and take the trophy all to himself against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
He didn’t put up and god-like numbers like we’re accustomed to, but once again, he only played a half of football, really.
The ‘Noles are currently taking care of Wake handily early in the second half, 49-0. Winston only played one series in the third quarter before head coach Jimbo Fisher took him out of the game for obvious reasons, with the Seminoles now in national title contention.
For the game, Winston finishes up with 159 yards on 17-of-28 passing with two touchdown passes and one interception. The pick came in that only series he played in the third.
Also in this one, Winston broke the freshman record for touchdown passes with his 26th on the season.
With Winston done for this week, all eyes will now turn to what his newest competition does later on this evening, reigning winner Johnny Manziel.
