Saturday, the Minnesota Golden Gophers continued their impressive run through 2013 as they moved to 8-2 on the year with a victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions at home, 24-10.
The Golden Gophers may be well on their way to a double-digit win season, and they’re doing it all without the services of their head coach, Jerry Kill, who is still currently on a medical leave to deal with epileptic seizures.
But, they did it again and with the win over Penn State specifically, the Gophers were able to take possession of the Governor’s Victory Bell trophy, which is awarded to the winner of this game.
Minnesota did take possession of it, but what happened when they did, I’m not sure was something they planned on.
While celebrating with the coveted hardware, the Minnesota players were so excited that–well, they broke it:
Broken trophy or not, the players and the coaches on this team have every right to be proud of everything they’ve accomplished so far this season, given all they’ve had to deal with.
