Duke retook the lead after thirteen unanswered points by North Carolina State after a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by freshman cornerback DeVon Edwards. The TD put the Blue Devils up 17-13 heading into the 4th quarter.
But, the Wolfpack took the lead right back on this 80-yard touchdown catch from Quinton Payton, thrown by Brandon Mitchell.
Payton dragged Edwards for what seems like 20 yards on the play before breaking free and punching it in the end zone.
The Duke corner would get his revenge though – and then some.
Edwards picked off Mitchell 3 minutes later and returned it 25 yards for a Duke score – after Duke scored on a 5-yard rush from Brandon Connette. 16 seconds later, he intercepted another NC State pass, this time from Pete Thomas, and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown.
DeVon Edwards 21-North Carolina State 20.
To recap, in a matter of 26 seconds, Duke went from down a field goal to up 17 points. Impressive.
With the assumed win, Duke will move to 3-2 in the ACC Coastal Division and 7-2 overall. NC State is still looking for their first ACC win of the year, and move to 3-6 on the season.
