USC Trojans’ running back Silas Redd missed the first five games of the 2013 season after undergoing offseason knee surgery. He went down again at the start of the second half against the California Golden Bears with an undisclosed right knee injury.
While the Trojans will undoubtedly miss their star tailback, sophomore Javorius Allen is filling in quite nicely against the Pac-12 rival Golden Bears.
Allen has run for a 43-yard touchdown, caught a 57-yard touchdown from Cody Kessler and scampered for this 79-yard score at the 10:42 mark of the third quarter.
USC is leading Cal 55-21 – pretty much out of reach – led by Allen’s 6 carries for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns and 1 catch for 57 yards and a TD.
Kessler has completed 14-of-17 passes for 170 yards and 2 TD’s.
The Golden Bear’s Jared Goff has completed 29-of-39 passes for 221 yards and 2 scores.
USC is trying to keep pace with UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State in the Pac-12 South. They currently sit at 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the division – 1 game behind the Sun Devils and a possible trip to the conference championship game.
Cal is still looking for their first conference win of the season – and their first win against an FBS opponent. Their only win came against FCS opponent Portland State University.
