Patrick Sharp isn’t known as a dominating physical force, but you wouldn’t know it based on this hit on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins while the Chicago Blackhawks were taking on the Edmonton Oilers. With a loose puck sitting on the boards, Sharp engaged Hopkins in a race for the biscuit.
Seeing that he might not get there first, Sharp decided to take care of the competition the good ol’ fashioned way.
With a body slam, of course.
That’s a big take down from one star player to another, and is quite the message early on in a 0-0 hockey game. As the defending Stanley Cup champion, the ‘Hawks see the best out of everyone on a nightly basis. Despite what Edmonton’s record would have you believe, this is still a competent team when they get all the ducks in a row.
That hasn’t been too often this season, and Sharp sent out quite a warning by taking down Nugent-Hopkins.
Despite a cool start, Sharp has come alive lately and has been leading the charge for Chicago. He had three assists as the ‘Hawks downed the Dallas Stars on Saturday before taking on the Oilers tonight.
If Sharp and Chicago were worn down and tired, they certainly didn’t show it in the early going against Edmonton.
