Richie Incognito wouldn’t talk about ‘toughen up’ instructions

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. reported that the Miami Dolphins coaches asked Richie Incognito “to toughen up” Jonathan Martin for missing a voluntary workout. Missing a voluntary workout is hardly anything that requires toughening up, but allegedly they ordered it.

Fox Sport’s Jay Glazer sat down with Incognito for an interview aired earlier today. He tried to ask Incognito about the Code Red order, but Incognito sidestepped the question.

“I asked Incognito if the coaches ordered a Code Red,” Glazer said on the air, after the interview played  “Did they order him to toughen up Jonathan Martin?  Incognito sidestepped the question, saying he can’t answer because of the ongoing legal situation.  The NFL is expected to meet with Jonathan Martin in Los Angeles later this week.”

There isn’t technically an ongoing legal situation though. There is an NFL investigation, and Incognito’s suspension from the Miami Dolphins but there isn’t a legal situation, at least that we know of.

He could also be protecting his coaches in this situation. We’ve seen New York Jets coach Rex Ryan order a Code Red of sorts when they were on Hard Knocks. It isn’t out of the realm of possibilities.
