Sunderland sits near the bottom of the English Premier League table, and they’re hosting one of the league’s better teams on Sunday, Manchester City. To American soccer fans, Sunderland is notable because it is Jozy Altidore’s club, though he did not start on Sunday. Sunderland would like to get a win at home and hopefully begin the turn around of their season.

There was a questionable foul from Sebastian Larsson in the 19th minute. He went high on the ankle on a slide tackle with studs out. There was some clamoring for a card and it could’ve easily been a red card, but he walked away without even a yellow.

Sunderland was the first club on the board in the 21st minute. Phillip Bardsley scored with a right footed shot from the left side of the box to the bottom right corner. He stopped the ball before taking a beautiful strike. Wes Brown got the assist on the goal. That goal was the lone score of the first half.

City came out and got some early chances on goal from Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo. They weren’t able to convert any early chances however. Sunderland weathered the storm and got their second win of the season
