Tim Thomas has never been accused of being the most laid back goaltender around, and J.T. Miller found that out the hard way after crashing the netminder’s crease tonight. With tensions rising between the New York Rangers and Florida Panthers and the game getting to the chippy level in a hurry, Miller took a whack at Thomas as he went down to cover up the puck.
Tomas then promptly punched miller in the mouth with his blocker.
This isn’t the first time that Thomas has taken his frustrations out on the first forward that has come into his general vicinity. You might recall several incidents during the netminder’s time in Boston with the Bruins, especially when the B’s took on the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup final.
With the Bruins, Thomas was taking on the team’s tough persona. In Florida, the outbursts seem to be caused by something much less positive. To be frank, the team in front of him stinks and he’s being expected to do a lot of heavy lifting on a nightly basis.
He joined the Panthers hoping that he could help them get over the playoff hump, but instead he’s been among the best players for Florida each night. That’s not a good sign for the Panthers or for Thomas, whose negative energy was very evident as Florida struggled to keep pace with the Rangers through a few stretches of play.
