Anthony Pettis out of UFC on Fox 9 title defense; Demetrious Johnson vs. Joseph Benavidez is new main event

UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis has once again suffered an injury to his knee. The injury was initially reported yesterday, but it was not expected to force Pettis out of the originally scheduled title defense against Josh Thomson. However, things have now changed.

Pettis vs. Thomson has been removed from the card and delayed to a later date, while the UFC on Fox 9 card has been moved to a later date.

The new main event for UFC on Fox 9 will be a flyweight title bout between Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez, which was originally scheduled for The Ultimate Fighter 18 finale.

With all of the changes, the TUF 18 finale also has a new main event.

A lightweight bout between Nate Diaz and Gray Maynard was slated as the co-main event for TUF 18, but now that bout has been bumped to headliner status. The bout will remain as a three-round fight.

It is a lot of changes to the UFC calendar, but the show must go on and each fight card was able to come away with a respectable main event.
