Justin Peters is doing everything he can to win hockey games for the Carolina Hurricanes, but you’ll have to forgive them for anxiously awaiting the return of Anton Khudobin and Cam Ward. While Ward has been practicing with the ‘Canes, Khudobin is still at least a week away from being able to do the same.
Goalie Anton Khudobin continues to make slow progress. Khudobin has been going through off-ice workouts and Muller said he probably was a week away from participating in a team practice.
Any goaltender news is positive goaltender news for the ‘Canes. Peters has really answered the bell here lately and has performed admirably in the wake of the simultaneous injuries to Ward and Khudobin. There’s no reason to think that Peters thought he had any chance of seeing a period or two of NHL action this season.
Peters is going to be making his eighth consecutive start for Carolina on Tuesday as they take on the red-hot Colorado Avalanche. The backup-backup goaltender is now 30th in the NHL in minutes played and has brought his GAA down to a respectable 2.51 with a strong week of play recently.
Still, he’s bound to recede to AHL-starter type goaltending eventually, and getting Ward and Khudobin back soon bodes well for a ‘Canes team with playoff aspirations.
