There’s no doubt the New York Yankees are interested in free agent catcher Brian McCann. But with the veteran reportedly looking for a $100 million dollar contract, that might be a price even the Yankees balk at.
Regardless, they’re still expected to enter the bidding for McCann’s services and according to David O’Brien, likely will drive up the market price for McCann even if they’re unable to sign the talented backstop:
#Yankees don’t sign McCann, it sounds like they’re sure going to at least drive the price up for the #Braves FA.
Of course, the Boston Red Sox have reportedly expressed interest in McCann, so it’s possible the Yankees may do what they can to elevate his asking price in hopes of costing the Red Sox a few more dollars.
There aren’t many teams who can afford to pay McCann the type of contract he wants – even less who are willing to pay that type of money to a catcher, so it should be interesting to see what type of deal McCann lands.
