The San Francisco Giants are set with Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum as their first three starters. However, the back end of their rotation is open and the team is reportedly interested in adding two pitchers to fill out their starting rotation.
One name which has continually surfaced in the past few days is that of Bronson Arroyo, though a few others gaining momentum are Matt Garza, Ervin Santana and Ubaldo Jimenez – this according to CBS Sports:
The Giants have shown interest in Matt Garza, Ervin Santana, Ubaldo Jimenez and many other free-agent starters. The Giants feel they have three very good pitchers to fill their top three slots with Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner and Tim Lincecum.
San Francisco does have some money to spend, though, it’s doubtful they’d be able to pull two starting pitchers out of that listing so the team may opt to bring in one while filling out the fifth starter role with a Spring Training invitee.
It’s doubtful the Giants and Ervin Santana would have much more than basic talks as Santana is rumored to be looking for a $100 million dollar deal.
