At one point and time as a member of the Oakland Athletics, Eric Chavez was thought to be one of the premier up-and-coming third baseman in baseball. And for a few years, Chavez played the part perfectly – that is – until injuries devalued his career.
But Chavez has had a late career comeback and is drawing some hefty interest on the open market from a handful of teams which include the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks and Anaheim Angels.
The Yankees, Diamondbacks and Angels are on the long list of teams pursuing veteran third baseman Eric Chavez.
Chavez, who spent last season with the D’Backs and the previous two with the Yankees would likely prefer an American League team where he can flex between third base and designated hitter. Playing in the National League, he’d likely find himself on the bench more often.
There was no word of contractual talks/offers, though, nearing 37, it’s not expected he’ll see more than a one or two year offer at most.
