Samsung is putting together a team of the 11 best players in the world on a team called the “GALAXY 11″ to take on a threatening alien race. Week by week we’ll find out who was asked to join the team, and first on deck wasn’t much of a surprise. Captaining the team will be four-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona.
They released a video announcing his selection. The video shows Messi dribbling a soccer ball through the streets of Barcelona before he realizes he is being followed by black SUVs. Messi tries to lose the cars following him but is ultimately trapped. Team manager Franz Beckenbauer rolls down his window and hands him the Captain’s arm band. He puts it on as he looks up at the sky to a hovering alien craft.
“We are excited to welcome Lionel Messi as the captain of the GALAXY 11 team and invite the world to join us as we enter the ‘recruitment’ chapter of this fantasy-inspired story,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics. “At Samsung, creativity is at the core of everything we do. GALAXY 11 extends our legacy of developing multi-layered, 360-degree campaigns that are both entertaining and engaging. We encourage fans to follow this fantasy meets reality campaign, as we introduce more ways for fans to get closer to their favorite sport and players.”
