We saw earlier in the day that San Francisco 49er’s linebacker Aldon Smith was to appear in court for weapons charges. Information has come out that Smith pled not guilty to the charges.

From NFL.com:

"SANTA CLARA, Calif. — San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith has pleaded not guilty to three felony counts of illegal possession of an assault weapon, stemming from a party at his home last year.Deputy District Attorney Brian Buckelew says the 24-year-old San Jose resident appeared in Santa Clara County Superior Court on Tuesday with his lawyer and parents."

Now this is a very interesting development, because Smith had three illegal weapons, including five unregistered (per California law) in his home. No details about the not guilty plea have been released but one would think it’s going to be difficult to get a not guilty to stick here.

The next Court appearance for Smith is set for Jan. 15, so the 49ers will have some time to forget about this whole mess in the media before they have to face it again.
