The Bundesliga is 12 games into their season, each team has 22 games left. Yet on November 23rd when Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund square off, Munich thinks they can clinch the Bundesliga title.
Winning won’t be easy, they play at Dortmund. Not to mention there would still be 6 months in the season and Munich would have a 7 point lead over Dortmund.
“That will certainly be the game of the year,” Munich star Franck Ribery told bundesliga.de. “I am already looking forward to it. Should we take all three points there, we’d be seven ahead of BVB. It would decide the title race ahead of time.”
He wasn’t the only one thinking this way.
“Should Bayern win in Dortmund, they will have a seven-point lead. That is a lot. Bayern will not throw that lead away,” Bayern’s honorary president Franz Beckenbauer said.
Seven points is a lot, but with 21 games left in the season after the clash with Dortmund, anything can happen. At least one Munich player is thinking rationally.
“Just because Dortmund have now lost a game, it doesn’t mean we are out of sight,” Bayern forward Thomas Mueller told Bild. “It doesn’t change that fast.
“With the three-point rule, you can quickly catch up a team with a four-point lead. We don’t want to allow to that happen but still, for me, it is clear: Bayern against Dortmund remains the pinnacle. That game was the Champions League final last season.”
