Jon Fitch could fight for WSOF Welterweight title

UFC veteran and World Series of Fighting star Jon Fitch has spent years chasing a world championship and now it seems he will once again be fighting for a world title.

There has been speculation that Fitch will challenge Steve Carl for the WSOF Welterweight championship. In an interview with MMAJunkie.com Radio, the former UFC 170-pound title contender said he felt he should be the next man to fight for the title. He also said he anticipated a rematch with Josh Burkman in the future.

Fitch is coming off of a split-decision win over Marcelo Alfaya back in October. In the interview he said he did not see anyone else in the WSOF ranks who could challenge for the title. Although the promotion has several 170-pound fighters, Carl, Burkman and Richard Patishnock are the only fighters who have had at least two wins in the promotion.

It would not surprise me if Fitch got the first shot at Carl’s title, especially if Patishnock is unable to compete in 2014.

If Fitch does get the title shot and defeats Carl, WSOF could certainly have Fitch vs. Burkman III headline an upcoming fight card.
