After getting off to a 7-0 start and ascending to #7 in the BCS rankings, the Miami Hurricanes have lost their last two games. ‘
Although many expect immediate results at a school like Miami, who won five national championships between 1983 and 2001, the team Golden took over had a long way to go.
“We’re still trying to build it,” Golden told the Associated Press. “We’re still trying to get it right. We’re still trying to develop depth. I know no one wanted to listen to me five, six, seven weeks ago. We’re not back. We’re building.”
The Hurricanes, who have lost to the rival Florida State Seminoles and Virginia Tech Hokies in consecutive weeks, are now in what is essentially a four-way tie for first place in the Coastal division (The Hurricanes, Hokies, Duke Blue Devils and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets each have two conference losses). The winner of the division will get a crack at the Seminoles in the ACC Championship game.
“We’ve finally gotten the gloves off and we get to go fight a fair fight, and we’re going to go fight a fair fight,” Golden said. “In the interim, we’re going to keep developing these guys and keep building the program forward.”
The Hurricanes will travel to Duke to take on the Blue Devils at 3:30 pm EST Saturday. The game is on ESPNU.
