The game between the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats and the NO. 2 Michigan State Spartans has gotten underway in Chicago as part of the State Farm Champions Classic.
This game, in particular, is a contest of youth vs. experience. The Wildcats have maybe the best freshman class ever assembled, led by star forward Julius Randle.
The Spartans have four starters back from last year’s Sweet 16 team.
So, something has to give, and so far in the first half, the experience has won out.
Michigan began the game on a 10-0 run in the first half as they stifled the Wildcats with their defensive efforts. They stole the ball four times, and made a statement after one of them.
Off of this one, they grabbed the ball from Kentucky, marched down the floor and finished it off with a beautiful alley-oop from Denzel Valentine to Branden Dawson, who slammed it right home:
Not a bad start for Tom Izzo’s crew by any means.
