MLB trade rumors: St. Louis Cardinals interested in Jed Lowrie

The St. Louis Cardinals are apparently on a search for a shortstop as they’ve been rumored to have interest in just about anybody available (and some not so available) in the past few weeks. Now we have a new name entering the sweepstakes – Jed Lowrie.

Peter Gammons reports the Cardinals are showing interest in Lowrie, who spent the past season with the Oakland Athletics:

While the Cardinals are shopping for a shortstop—Troy Tulowitzki, Jurickson Profar, Elvis Andrus, Erick Aybar, et al—they are also interested in Oakland’s Jed Lowrie, who can give them length in their batting order.

So why the interest in Lowire? Possibly due to the relatively cheap price. Oakland is reportedly ready to bring Addison Russell to the Major’s and currently Lowrie is blocking such a move. That should result in Oakland being willing to move their infielder without a hefty price tag, though, it remains to be seen just how much of an upgrade that would be for the Cardinals – if any.
