During this past postseason, 40-year-old starting pitcher Bartolo Colon said he’d like to pitch for three more seasons. The Oakland Athletics said they wanted him back, but apparently not for three years as the club is expected to offer Colon a one year contract, this according to CBS Sports:

The A’s are planning to make a one-year offer to free agent pitcher Bartolo Colon, the ace of this year’s staff.

Colon was absolutely fantastic for the Athletics during the 2013 season, posting a 18-6 record alongside a 2.65 ERA. Granted, half of his games were played in the cavernous O.co Coliseum, but regardless those numbers were sensational.

It’s possible Colon may opt to test the market to see if he can secure a deal longer than one year, though, he likely won’t find a much better scenario than in Oakland where he can play on a team with postseason aspirations and pitch his home games in one of the more pitcher friendly ballparks in the league.
