Last weekend, the UFC traveled to Brazil for UFC Fight Night 32: Belfort vs. Henderson. In the first main card fight of the evening on Fox Sports 1, featherweight Rony Jason was knocked out in the first-round of his bout with Jeremy Stephens, but he wasn’t done suffering damage yet.
After the fight, Jason punched through the locker room door which resulted in a trip to the hospital and more than twenty stitches. It turns out that losing your cool will land you further punishment.
Jason was slapped with a 180 day medical suspension, but the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission announced Jason would also be hit with a 30 day suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Due to his unsportsmanlike conduct in the locker room area after his fight, CABMMA announced “the suspension of the athlete Rony ‘Jason’ Mariano for a period of 30 days, counted as from the end of the period of his medical suspension,” said the release sent to MMAFighting.com.
With the pair of suspensions, Jason won’t be able to compete until June 9, 2014.
UFC president Dana White seemed understanding following the event at the post-fight press conference, but it looks like the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission was not as forgiving.
For Jason, it is a lesson learned and he will hope to rebound with a big win in his next bout.
