With Mario Manningham and Michael Crabtree soon to return to the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver corps, a move had to be made. That move was releasing Kyle Williams, who is likely most famous for his two inexcusable fumbles on punt returns during San Francisco’s 2012 NFC Championship Game loss to the New York Giants.

"#49ers to waive WR Kyle Williams today, #NFL source said."

As San Francisco was dealing with a multitude of injuries as the season kicked off, Williams ‘started’ five of the 49ers’ first nine games though was all but an afterthought in the offense as he only caught twelve passes for 113 yards, ripe with poor routes and drops.

Williams himself was coming off an injury as he tore his ACL nearly a year ago, but was a questionable talent at best prior to the injury.

It’s not expected Williams will draw much interest on the waiver wire considering his struggles with San Francisco and the fact he appeared to lack much explosion after the ACL tear.
