According to David Teel of the Daily Press in Virginia, Virginia Tech Athletic Director Jim Weaver will be stepping down from his position next month due to health issues.

Weaver stepped in to this position in 1997 and has overseen some spectacular growth to the university. The football program has enjoyed numerous trips to BCS bowls, including a BCS National Championship Game appearance following the 1999 season, a 46-29 loss to Florida State.

They moved from the fledgling Big East to the ACC back in 2005 and have thrived within that conference since.

He also expressed to Teel that in addition to his Parkinson’s battle, he also needs both hips replaced, so this move is warranted.

However, I’m sure he’ll be dearly missed in Blacksburg.
