Buffalo Sabres Breaking News: Darcy Regier and Ron Rolston fired, Ted Nolan and Pat LaFontaine brought in

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Sabres announced a press conference this morning and dropped several bombshells on the media types that had gathered. It was announced that Darcy Regier and Ron Rolston had been fired, with Ted Nolan replacing Rolston behind the bench. Pat LaFontaine will obtain the title President of Hockey Operations, and this signals a dramatic shift for a team that’s had a brutal time winning games this season.

Wow indeed. Nolan is known as a war chief of sorts, and demands a lot out of his players. He was John Tortorella before Tortorella was tearing it up and cutting his teeth in New York, and it will be incredibly interesting to see how the team responds to the abrasive Nolan.

Meanwhile, LaFontaine is a blast from the past for a Buffalo team that could use all the nostalgia it can get right now.

The Sabres are loading up on alumni, presumably modeling their front office after that of the Colorado Avalanche. No general manager will be named at this time, but LaFontaine promised that he had a short list and would begin searching immediately.
