The Boston Red Sox may be looking to make a run at free agent outfielder Carlos Beltran and looks like they’ll lose Jacoby Ellsbury.

Almost every team has a back up plan just in case their original plan doesn’t go as planned. Now they have plenty of options this season as a strong group of promising free agents could come in and add some solid offense and defense to their roster.

According to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick on Twitter, the Boston Red Sox have long time Arizona Diamondback outfielder Chris Young on their list just in case Ellsbury slips away.

The 30 year free agent has all but one year of his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Not only was he a great defensive player, but Young has the ability to hit 20 plus home runs a season. His career high is 32 and averages 18 a season.

I think Young would be an excellent pick up by the Red Sox. What do you think Red Sox fans?
