Can Blake Bortles get into Heisman discussion?

The No. 17 UCF Knights didn’t the 2013 college football with much attention, but Saturday’s 19-14 win over the Houston Cougars, they improve to 7-1 and 4-0 in the AAC, and now have as easy a road to a BCS Bowl game as any team in America.

Much of their success has been due to the play of quarterback Blake Bortles. The junior has passed for 2080 yards and thrown 15 TDs to just five interceptions. He’s poised to have a career day this weekend against the Temple Owls.

Out of 125 FBS teams, the Owls pass defense ranks 123rd. Thi may be the first of many big games Bortles has down the stretch of this season as he looks to at least get his name into the Heisman discussion. Here is the Knights remaining schedule:

Sat, Nov 16

@ Temple Owls

12:00 PM ET

Thu, Nov 21

vs Rutgers Scarlet Knights

7:30 PM ET

Fri, Nov 29

vs South Florida Bulls

Sat, Dec 7

@ SMU Mustangs

Those teams a re a combined 11-22. The Knights just need to hold serve against those teams and they’ll be in a BCS game easily, and while Bortles has no real shot of winning the Heisman, a great finish to this season could help propel him into the discussion for the award next year.
