Clint Dempsey looking to return to the English Premier League

The MLS season is up for the most teams as we near the MLS final. That has some MLS stars eyeing loans to other clubs, namely Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey.

“Clint’s contract allows him to go on loan for the off-season and all parties are working on a deal and we won’t be surprised if it happens,” Seattle general manager Adrian Hanauer is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.

The Sounders want to keep Dempsey and aren’t looking to transfer him, but they could consider loaning him to an English Premier League team. Before joining the Sounders, Dempsey played for Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham before that.

“Clint is a strong personality,” said Hanauer. “He is an absolutely fantastic personality for this team, but when you inject a strong personality in the middle of the season, it changes the dynamic a little bit.

“I think everybody can see the quality on the field. You don’t know what’s going on in the locker room, but he is going to be a great leader on this team for hopefully many years.”

There were also reports that Tottenham have the first option to re-sign Dempsey. Other interested teams reportedly include Fulham, Aston Villa and Everton.
