Jeff Skinner got one step closer to returning this morning while practicing in a yellow no-contact sweater for the Carolina Hurricanes. Head coach Kirk Muller might be reluctant to shake up his roster following a recent 3-0-1 run, however. Skinner has only been back out on the ice for a few days, and the ‘Canes have been playing well in his absence.
Still, it’s tough to leave a player of Skinner’s caliber on the shelf if he’s ready to play.

Muller spoke to the Raleigh News and Observer about Skinner and whether or not he’d play when ready:
We’re getting the bodies back. The team’s playing well so it’s going to be some interesting decisions coming up. When he feels he’s ready to go he’ll be a player.
A week ago, news of Skinner returning would have probably elated ‘Canes fans as they were falling down the standings without a No. 1 or No. 2 goaltender. They’ve been outstanding on their recent home stand though, and will continue to improve as guys like Skinner check back into the lineup.
Once Cam Ward and/or Anton Khudobin are ready to go, this is a team that could do some damage the rest of the way.
