The Cincinnati Reds obviously want to bring back outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, but given his requests for a $100 million dollar contract, doing so won’t come cheaply.
It will also likely come at the expense of other players on the roster, this according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports who says the Reds will trade Phillips and may need to move pitcher Homer Bailey to afford Choo.
The Reds haven’t given up on re-signing outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, but probably would need to trade second baseman Brandon Phillips and possibly right-hander Homer Bailey to create the necessary payroll room, sources said.
Rosenthal also mentions that second baseman Brandon Phillips is ‘a goner’, so it really comes down to the team creating enough financial flexibility in a Phillips trade along moving another deal, presumably Baileys.
The Reds also have speedster Billy Hamilton who will likely take over center field duties by 2015.
