Things in MMA change quickly and often. Yesterday, it was reported that Jon Jones would be making his next title defense against Glover Teixeira at UFC 170 on February 22nd. I mentioned that the timing was odd considering that Jones was not able to fight on the Super Bowl card at UFC 169 earlier in the month.
Today, after the UFC 167 pre-fight press conference, Dana White announced that UFC 170 will not be headlined by Jones vs Glover and no new main event had been decided. Here is confirmation via Ariel Helwani:
Dana: Jones vs Teixeira is now NOT happening on 2/22. He just found out before the presser. It might happen in march now. He wouldn’t say y.

Strangely enough, earlier today, both Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira tweeted about their bout at UFC 170. It seems that Jon Jones deleted his earlier tweet, but he was basically announcing that he will be fighting Glover at UFC 170. Glover’s tweet, however, was not deleted:

No word yet as to why the fight was scrapped, for the second time I might add. Dana did say that the fight is likely to happen in March, which still means the fight between Gustafsson and Manuwa will be around the same time. If both Gus and Jones win, expect the epic rematch in the summer.
