You can add the Baltimore Orioles to the list of suitors interested in the services of free agent outfielder (and likely soon to be designated hitter), Carlos Beltran.

And like so many of the interested parties, the Orioles would likely need to move salary if they were to sign Beltran.

Because of that, it’s unlikely the Orioles will be able to sign Beltran considering the obstacles in their way, but that hasn’t stopped them from expressing interest, according to Ken Rosenthal:

Sources: #Orioles interested in Beltran. Pursuit may hinge on team clearing Wieters or another high-salaried player.

Trading Matt Wieters just so you can sign Beltran seems like a pretty drastic move, so I have a difficult time believing that. That’s not to say trading Wieters wouldn’t be considered, but simply to clear salary? I’d venture to believe they’d attempt to move somebody like Nick Markakis, which would not only clear salary but alleviate playing time.

Beltran is reportedly seeking a three to four year deal.
