The Buffalo Sabres downed the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. Ryan Miller won two consecutive games for the first time all season, and Ted Nolan won his first game back with the Sabres in what happened to be a pretty emotional night for the head coach. The team presented a “welcome back” video prior to the contest.
Steve Ott had a two-point performance for the Sabres, and Buffalo appeared to be a bit more motivated than usual. This is what teams look like when they’re fired up by the firing of a head coach. As opposed to baffled.
One game isn’t going to turn things around for Buffalo though. This victory will pass quickly, and the Sabres will be expected to put up the same high level of effort when they take on the Leafs again tomorrow night in Toronto. You can bet that they’ll be fired up to avenge the loss tonight, and it’ll be a different contest.
Still, this is a positive for a team that’s been struggling badly to find anything buzz worthy all, and Nolan’s return leading to a victory is a great place for the Sabres to start. It’s a small step, but at least it’s a step forward for this badly beaten and bewildered franchise.
