Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes was recently fined for his actions on and off the court and specifically one particular racially charged term on Twitter.  He could have let it go, but then he would not be Matt Barnes.  Today, Barnes told everyone that they need to “get used to it” and he plans to continue to use the term.

“The word I used is a word that’s used on the court, used in the locker room, used amongst my friends and family; it’s a regular word to me,” Barnes said. “I think my mistake was using it in a social manner, which I regret and I apologize for it. But you guys have to get used to it.”

Right, wrong or neither, there seems to be a level of push back in regards to this term from athletes and African Americans in general including Charles Barkley, Michael Wilbon and the situation involving the Miami Dolphins.  It is unclear where it is going to end up, but it is going to be a continuing discussion at least in the short term.
