This is a friendly match between England and Chile. They’ve already wrapped World Cup qualifying and punched their tickets to Brazil. While this is essentially a meaningless game with nothing on the line, you can expect it to be taken seriously. This is essentially an opportunity for the teams to see how they match up against international teams they don’t regularly face, like the ones they’ll play in the World Cup.
“It’s very, very important as part of our preparation. These next two friendly games, against top world sides like Brazil and England, will give us an idea of where we are and how we’re going to compete in the World Cup,” Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli said.
“We know those two sides are going to give us a real stiff test and that’s important for us. Any mistakes you make, they don’t let you off. For me, the World Cup starts on Friday. Irrespective what the line-up is, it’s important we hit our straps and treat it like it’s the World Cup. It’s a competitive match for us.”
England will bench Manchester City goal keeper Joe Hart. He has made some errors that have resulted in goals with his club, who has also benched him.
“Joe Hart won’t be starting tomorrow,” England manager Roy Hodgson said, via ESPN FC. “You will have to work out for yourself which of the other two will.”
