Earlier this year, the University of Hawaii announced that they would be changing the nickname of their men’s athletic teams back to the ‘Rainbow Warrior,’ what they had been called for years up until the year 2000 when they decided to become just the ‘Warriors.’
To some historians and college football junkies, like myself, it was refreshing to hear. It was refreshing to hear because when you hear the term ‘Rainbow Warriors,’ one thing comes to mind–the uniforms.
Before Oregon started the current trend, Hawaii was notorious for having one of the most colorful ensembles in all of the game.
For those not old enough to be familiar with what I’m talking about, here’s an example of what Hawaii looked like years ago:
Well, the school has announced that this Saturday against San Diego State, Under Armour has designed some throwback uniforms which give a new-age take on the old-school digs, and they’re absolutely spectacular.
